Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Volunteer -Karen Stauffer

Capturing life’s moments with my camera is one of my favorite things to do.  A few times on my photography journey I have had the honor of capturing the birth, first cries, and baby toes of a precious newborn.  Those sessions where I captured the first moments of seeing a little one enter into this world is a miracle in itself.

For many parents those first moments are the thrill of a lifetime, for other parents the joy of meeting their new baby is mixed with the agony of precious life cut too short.

A couple years ago I had the privilege of going to a ‘hands on’ photography workshop hosted by Sandy Puc. Not only is she a fantastic photographer, but she is also the founder of the amazing organization Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.  I left really feeling like this is a way I can give back in my community. The 501(C)(3) non-profit organization is a group of VOLUNTEER photographers across the globe who work with parents and hospitals. We are contacted by medical staff,  “hired” by the parents to photography the baby however NO money is exchanged.  We provide the gift of remembrance photography for parents suffering the loss of a babyIt can be a difficult process for everyone, but often we find as photographers, the parents are eternally grateful for the photos that we gift to them.

Not every photographer gets approved to be a volunteer for this organization so I feel really blessed to be a part of it.  Whether it’s a bride, a high school senior, or a family that has lost their baby, I hope that my photography will always be a blessing to those who receive it.

One of the most blessed parts of our profession is our ability to “give back” 🙂 Your gift will bless those who receive it.ReplyCancel

It’s such a wonderful thing when we can give something back. What you are doing is sad, but beautiful. Kudos to you and the other photographers doing the same thing!ReplyCancel

That’s admirable that you can help capture parents with their babies to remember them by.ReplyCancel
